One and one half hours of square dancing equals 30 minutes of aerobics. In addition, as you square dance you are using your mind. There are over 4000 movements you can learn in square dancing. Of course, you don’t need but 30 or so to have a ball. You can always add more calls to your repertoire so square dancing will never become a boring event. When you are dancing you do not think of the problems of the day. Thus, square dancing is also a good stress reliever.

In today’s society, it is difficult to have a lot of social contact. We are by nature gregarious people. With dancing, we can achieve the social interaction that we need in order to lead a balanced and healthy life. Dancing will relieve you of everyday stress. Square dancing can be done anywhere in the world. It is always called in English all over the world. With square dancing, you can include it as a part of your vacation no matter where in the United States or the world you may be traveling. Square dance festivals are offered on the local, state, national and international level. Dance directories are available that list the clubs all over the world. Square dance vacations abound at places like Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Lolo, Montana and many others. In Brevard County there are over 10 square dance clubs. You can dance every night of the week if you so desire.

Lessons are offered throughout the year by the local clubs. Costs are low for the lessons, about what you would spend on a trip to McDonalds. THE BARN offers lessons that enable you to start attending dances in as little as 10 weeks. Families are encouraged to take lessons together. Special pricing arrangements can be made for families. For recent graduates or experienced dancers, there are all levels of lessons to fit your desires. THE BARN is currently conducting lessons in Basic, Mainstream, Plus, A1 and A2. Dances are also offered at all levels.
